2020 Transportation Plan
The 2020 Transportation Plan evaluates the existing transportation system, updates area travel characteristics, and recommends a transportation plan and a staged improvement program.
The overall goal of the study is to plan a transportation system to accommodate the present and future economic development and mobility needs of all people and goods traveling within
and through the Jackson Urbanized Area. The proposed system is designed to be safe, efficient, economically feasible, and complementary to the character of the area. The Plan allows
for periodic updating and revision, with enough flexibility to respond to evolving changes.
The map depicts improvements necessary to meet the surface transportation
demands of the year 2020 in three stages. Those corridors in which the needs
are projects to be most critical are addressed in Stage I (1997-2000).
Projects designed to address the less critical deficiencies are programmed
for Stage II (2001-2010) and Stage III (2011-2020).
Among the projects identified in the first stage are those for which the
Federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) funding made available through
CMPDD has actually been committed by the District's Metropolitan Planning
Organization (MPO). The second and third stages also include projects to be
funded through CMPDD, but funding has not yet been committed by the MPO.
