Renewal Community

In 2002, Mississippi was fortunate to receive one of forty Renewal Community (RC) Designations given nationally by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The RC program is a tax incentive program enacted by Congress in 2000 under the Community Renewal Tax Relief Act.

The RC program, which began January 1, 2002 and continues through December 31, 2009, allows businesses located within the designated areas to receive valuable tax credits aimed at providing businesses with immediate tax relief. Mississippi’s designated RC area includes portions of 13 counties and 30 municipalities located throughout the central portion of the state.

Tax Incentives

Valuable tax incentives available under the program include:

  • Wage Credits
  • Increased Section 179 Deductions
  • Commercial Revitalization Deductions
  • Capital Gains Exclusion
  • Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC)
  • Welfare-to-Work Credit (WtW)
