Elder Abuse Prevention & Advocacy Services

Nursing Home Ombudsman
Through contractual arrangements with local entities, trained ombudsmen visit all nursing homes and licensed personal care homes to investigate complaints from residents and their families regarding the care they receive in these facilities. While assuming these responsibilities, they serve as companions and advocates to these individuals.

Elder Abuse Prevention
The Elder Abuse Prevention Program is designed to alert the public to the critical need for individual and collective action to protect abused, neglected, and exploited older adults in the community. This program seeks to serve as an information and referral base for broadening public and private involvement in the protection of at-risk older persons.

Legal Assistance
Under a contract with Central Mississippi Legal Services Corporation, CMPDD funds a legal counseling and assistance program for older persons in the central Mississippi area. The program is designed to assist them in becoming aware of their civil and legal right through activities or direct intervention on their behalf. Individuals are represented by lawyers, paralegals, or by law students under the supervision of a lawyer. Educational programs are also a part of this agreement.
